Playing chess in the Tricity usually means a club room or a hall that hosts tournaments. In Gdańsk the Król i Królowa club plays at ul. Politechniczna 7 in Wrzeszcz, the building of the Jantar department store, the Shipyard BHP Hall on ul. Popiełuszki hosts league rounds and the Solidarity Cup, and the Main Library of the University of Gdańsk has housed summer festivals. In Gdynia the Bałtyk cooperative’s culture club in Witomino, the Navy Club and the Zygmunt August Hall of the Naval Academy have all seen rated play.

For a casual game there are fewer doors: Cafe Espressya in Orłowo holds chess evenings on alternate Wednesdays, the Suchanino library in Gdańsk has a chess circle on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the Mały Kack library in Gdynia has offered free workshops. Schools across the area open their halls for weekend tournaments, from Oliwa and Ujeścisko to Bolszewo, Wejherowo and Kowale, and the volunteer fire brigade hall in Banino hosts the Żukowo commune championships.
